On Thursday, February 18, 2016, ChesMRC and NAACP partnered up for “Healthy Heart Night” in celebration of February being National Heart Month and Diabetes Awareness at the American Legion Post 77 in Easton, MD .
The night featured Chef Tyrell Jackson of the Inn at Perry Cabin providing a cooking demo on how to make Coconut soup, which helps to regulate the heart and provides the nutrients necessary for healthy bone and nail growth.
Many people are not aware of the close connection between diabetes and heart disease, but heart disease is actually one of the most common complications of diabetes. It’s so common that having diabetes actually doubles your risk for heart attack or stroke. ChesMRC and NAACP hopes that through providing presentations such as these, more members of the community are educated on the importance of healthy eating and the preventative measures that can be taken to combat diabetes and heart disease.
The event welcomed over 25 people that were able to participate and enjoy the cooking demonstration and presentation focusing on Diabetes and Healthy Hearts.
